Day 3- When a loved one is in prison

We dedicated our day on Saturday to visiting my sweet older brother Adam in prison. We always look forward to spending time with him, even though the conditions are not ideal. It means a lot to the kids, to us and most of all, to Adam! We always make sure we bring in plenty of money to buy pictures with Adam and to buy him a big lunch. The kids enjoy playing card games and board games while we all catch up on life. We do a lot of laughing and we also do a lot of crying! We pray for Adam and over Adam. It warms all out hearts to spend that time together as a family. All our hearts ache as we say good-bye at the end of our visit. We love him deeply and miss him terribly. Please know we take seeing our children to a prison very seriously. My husband and I both prayed a long time about whether we should bring them with us on a visit. God spoke to both of us and gave us the okay to do so. We are both very aware and observant of everything that is going on during our visit, for our children’s safety is our number one priority. God has called our family to shine a light into the dark places where the broken and hurting people are. This prison is just one of the many places we will be obedient in going to. Our family is always safest when we are exactly where God has called is to be. Therefore we have no fear. We know God is going to use Adam to do great things for he has a plan for his life! God can make broken things beautiful! There is NOTHING that can ever separate God’s love from us. Our God forgives, he restores, he transforms and offers us abundant grace! We are so thankful to see the work already being done in Adam’s life. God is FAITHFUL!!

We ended our day sitting around another awesome campfire built by the older kids! I wonder if we will ever get sick of eating smores? I’ll let you know! 🙂

  1. So excited to read every step of your journey. The world needs more love and understanding. I believe taking your children to see their uncle is a good thing. It shows them good people can make poor choices but it doesn’t mean we just abandoned them. Pray for them and show love so they can turn their lives around.
Many prayers for you and family.

  2. Oh Krista..seeing this made me cry so much. Your words are so true and so full of life. It’s so nice to hear such positive things in such a negative environment. I havent seen my husband again because I need permission to bring the baby which looks like its going to be hard. I miss him so much and wish I could go over there as many times as I can. Your brother is so blessed to have such a wonderful family by him and praying for him. Your words of encouragement touched my heart and I hope your journey and plans can touch the lives of so many people that come your way. May God bless you and your family and your brother Adam.

      • Absolutely!..thank you so much for just offering your friendship. I actually don’t have any friends and family are all in NJ. I trust in the Lord and I know he’s working this out for good as well. Just like for Adam, God has made so many changes in Joe and our marriage is better than ever..even being 5 hrs and 45 mins apart. I don’t even know when I’ll get to see him again but our son already turns 1 next month and I hope I can surprise him with Jaise’s presence next time I see him. May God keep blessing you and your family. I always pray for Him to care for you guys on this journey. So continuing on being such an awesome wife and mother yourself and keep shining that light on everyone you meet as your voice and words have already done to me.

  4. I attended His Fellowship when I first moved to Florida in 1996 when you and your family attended there. Then moved to Grace Tabernacle which I think you also attended for a while. The years have flown by and you and your husband have become such an awesome witness for the Lord. Am happy to share this journey with you and wish you Godspeed. What an awesome, priceless experience for all of you. Am jealous! Thank you for sharing and may the Lord continue to bless and guide you. You also convey your doings and thoughts so beautifully!
